Abstract

The paper aims to analyze the trends in production and consumption of machine tools. It also analyses the reason for the changes in production and consumption in Indian machine tool sector after economic reforms. The paper throws light on the changes in the type of machine tools produced after 2000 and compares with the type of machine tools produced in 1990. The paper concludes that the machine tool sector being an important industry producing mother machine has increased the production of computer numerically controlled machines. Growth of machine tool consumption has surpassed the growth in production which has increased the gap between the two.
