Abstract

This study examined the fundamental movement skills (FMS) of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Typical Developmental (TD) children in a few Special Education schools of Penang State, Malaysia. Ten ASD children and ten TD children, aged 7 to 10, participated in the study. The Test of Gross Motor Development (TGMD-2) was used to measure the FMS. ANCOVA test showed that the overall gross motor skills of ASD children were significantly lower than those of the TD group. The ASD children were considerably delayed in their FMS. An independent t-test on the overhand throw skill yielded similar results. Simplified yet effective instructions should be applied according to the functional level of the learners.
